thought & coconut & a book

THOUGHT
This was shared with me last week:

A man must get away now and then
to experience loneliness.
Only those who learn how to live
in loneliness
can come to know themselves
and life.
I go out there and walk
and look at the trees and sky.
I listen to the sounds of loneliness.
I sit on a rock or stump
and say to myself,
"Who are you, Sandburg?
Where have you been,
and where are you going?" ~ Carl Sandburg

The words above were presented with a question: 'becca, what are your thoughts? What are your thoughts? Mine -- I spent many years very lonely. The most lonely years I've lived were very recent.

I replied to my friend with a lengthy email of thoughts and emotions,, looking back on the past 13 years.  Sandburg's words resonated deep.  I am choosing not to share, but keep them close, among few. I will share that I have learned to thank god for the days turned months, turned years for the learning which took place. I will also praise him for our move and for finally finding a community who will accept me for who I am, challenge me to be more than I imagine possible and supporting me along the way.

COCONUT
What I'm making for dessert (OK, maybe my dinner) tonight. Coconut Bars. Yum!

BOOK
The same friend who sent me that thought, mailed me a parcel. Inside was a book. I am only half finished, but it has found its way into my stack of yearly reading, along with Compassion & The Alchemist
It is small. It is rich. It will make you angry. It will make you cry. It will give you hope and understanding and faith and you should totally buy it and read it. From Brokenness to Community.
