I forgot a couple of my consumable Christmas gifts because they were in the fridge; both too good not to share.
First, over Thanksgiving Martin, my brother in law, brought us an early Christmas gift, venison, properly labeled the Ozark way, Ground Deer. He is a hunter and I (we) am not. He hunts, but my sister, like many people I'm finding out, are not fond of the meat. I use it to replace ground beef and don't tell people and so far, none have noticed. Thanks Martin, I have 2 lbs on the counter to use in stuffed acorn squash for dinner.
Second, Jam from Brother Junipers! In December '10 I got to go with my Daddy-o for his annual St. Jude 1/2 marathon run in Memphis. I introduced him to Yelp! and Yelp! introduced us to Brother Juniper's. I remember the tofu scramble and the jam on my toast & the coffee -- the whole meal.
In 2011 I didn't run in Memphis, my mom went along to cheer for and enjoy the festivities with him. Guess what restaurant they revisited? Brother Junipers, where they got me a jar of Strawberry Jam. It's an extra special treat because I don't eat bread very often. After realizing my GI issues were because of gluten, I had to stop eating one of my favorite things, bread. I usually have a loaf of Udi's in the freezer which lasts a couple of months. Since receiving this gift, it's going much quicker.
(This is a way to make Ms. Food Face wink.)
Do tell, did you receive any Consumable gifts this holiday season? What were your favorites?
