SharkFest Triathlon Weekend

What a fun weekend. The boys and I are officially triathletes. Well, I think we can say that now. We all finished our first race and are looking for the next. It was so fun to have my family here for the weekend of racing and eating and playing and swimming and maybe a little toasting.

I posted a few pics from my phone on Saturday, but here are a few from the camera. At the end are a few from my race.

In all the races I have done, I have never had support on the course from athletes, no wait teammates, or the crowd. It made a world of difference. Having my boys waiting 200 yards from the finish holding a sign, then running me in was so fun. My brother, sister, nieces, nephew, sis-in-law, momma and daddy-0 were all over the course cheering and encouraging. They cheered on me and my friends. It was great!

And then there's Jonathan...whom I can not thank enough. He's ridden with me up and down hills the past couple of weeks and watched me practice transition in the driveway. He was up with me at 4 this morning, he helped set up the F5 (my tri club) tent and get the ice bath pools set up for the finish, took pictures, met me off the swim, at transition to the bike, run and was at the finish to put a cold towel on my neck. I look forward to doing a relay with him one of these days. I'll do the swim and run, he'll do the bike.

If you are a results driven person and want info like splits, you can look here because I don't know them. All I know is that my original goal was to finish in 1 hour 45 minutes then that switched to 2 hours after a number of conversations with people who said a 1:45 for my first tri was pretty lofty. Especially since I had not ever done an open water swim (until this morning I'd only swam distance in a pool) and I'd not been on my bike but a handful of times since May. If I finished under 2 that would be great. I finished in 1 hour 31 min and ?? seconds. I'm thrilled. Boys results are here. Now if only they had a road bike...

Yeah!! We are so proud of you all! Nicky wishes you were here. Any chance Elliot wants to fly here in September and go to the OBX with us? (I know, he'd have to miss a little more than a week of school to make that work...just giving it a shot!) :)
