Q, A, How2 & Why -- Comfort Food

Q: 'becca, what is your comfort food?
A: Popcorn.
How2:
~ Stove top popper is a must, microwave will never, never make the cut. This one works well (Buy it here) and has lasted a number of years.
~ Pour a little oil in the bottom of the pan and toss in a few kernels.
~ Wait until they pop. Why? Because that is the way my mom taught me and so that's the way it works best. Yes?
~ After they pop, pour in more, enough to cover the bottom, then begin to whirl or shake. I always whirl and shake. Surprised?
~ As it pops, melt the butter, real salted butter, on a nearby burner and open a paper grocery sack.
~ After it is finished popping, pour into the paper bag, drizzle the butter on top and toss in some sea salt. Shake.Shake. Shake.
~ Serve straight out of the bag or pour in a wooden bowl to friends & family gathered in the kitchen or a group of rowdy boys sitting in the family room watching a movie.

Why it's a comfort food?
When I was growing up we had SMS, now MSU, kids at our house almost daily. We would walk in the door from school and it was not rare to find a few of them watching TV or visiting with my momma in the kitchen and always there was popcorn and lemonade. It's the most comfortable of foods from my childhood and each time I pop a batch I feel warm and loved.

What's a food that makes you feel that way?

Chips and salsa is my comfort food, but stove-popped popcorn is also up there :-)
